Explorer was built by three Givaudan perfumers working side by side, Jordi Fernandez, Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux, each one championing a raw material he had spent years with. That method explains the unusual direction the scent takes: where mainstream men’s fragrance has drifted towards sweet and heavy, Explorer stays sharp, dry and easy to read. Citrus opens it, wood and leather close it, and nothing turns gourmand. It is a modern woody aromatic made to be worn without thinking about it.
The opening is blunt: Italian bergamot, pink pepper and clary sage, a bright start with just enough bite. The heart drops into Haitian vetiver and a supple leather note, warmer but never smoky. The base sets down ambroxan, akigalawood, Indonesian patchouli leaf and cacao pod, the last of these bringing a dry bitterness where most masculine woody scents would reach for sugar.
