What we are offering here is an original bottle from the 1990s, not current production. Creed withdrew Royal Delight from its catalogue several years ago and has not reissued it: what you receive comes from period stock, in its bottle and packaging of the time. The composition itself dates from 1993 and carries Olivier Creed's signature. The house attributes a far older origin to it, a commission from a widowed Spanish queen for the royal guard she would marry in secret, but that account belongs to Creed's own storytelling and is corroborated nowhere else; the date perfumery references settle on remains 1993.
The opening is bright and sweet, tangerine and bergamot, before a full floral heart led by jasmine and violet. Then comes what makes the composition singular: a base of leather and ambergris, animalic and powdery at once, with a warmth far removed from today's sweet oriental fragrances and equally far from the fresh compositions the house is now known for.
