Borsalino For Men Eau de Toilette
Borsalino has been making hats for Italian heads since 1857, and only in 1984 did the Alessandria house put its name on a fragrance. This is the direct translation of it: a masculine chypre, dry and formally dressed, from the same generation as the great Italian masculines of that decade. It should not be confused with the fragrance line Borsalino relaunched recently around iris — Black Iris, White Iris — which shares neither its structure nor its intent. The 1984 original is no longer produced; what we offer comes from period stock.
The opening is aromatic and direct, lavender and clary sage over bergamot, with the slightly austere clarity particular to 1980s masculines. The heart opens onto a green, peppery floral — carnation, cyclamen, jasmine, fern — that softens without ever sweetening. Then comes the real material: oakmoss, leather, labdanum, vetiver and cedar build a dense mossy-leather base, warmed by amber and musk. This is the part contemporary chypre fragrances can no longer manage, restrictions on oakmoss having largely redrawn the family since.
